4 Ways to Help #DefundPlannedParenthood

It is not a pastor’s job to be a political activist, nor is it his calling to be a civil rights leader because it is the eternal salvation of all men and women everywhere, and the spiritual growth of true believers that compels a true shepherd to do what he does. Yet, as one of those pastors, I also am not of the persuasion that silence is always the answer either (Proverbs 31:8-9). Therefore, in the wake of the three videos that have been released uncovering the despicable atrocities of Planned Parenthood (all seen here), I not only want you to be informed, but I want us to think about how we might respond to our responsibility as Christians living in America at this present time.

Here are 4 ways the universal church in America can to our part to help slay the monster of one of the most powerful instruments of Satan in our age—Planned Parenthood:

1.  Use the hashtags #DefundPlannedParenthood and #DefundPP.

Social media can be a double-edged sword. It has started friendships and ended friendships, but with a little discernment and maturity it can be a blessing. Because of Facebook and Twitter, we no longer need to watch the news. Anything worth knowing is shared on social media by every local and world news organization. That’s actually how I discovered the Planned Parenthood (PP) videos that gave clear incriminating evidence that they have been illegally harvesting fetal body parts for profit.

Social media isn’t going to slay the Goliath that is PP, but it can be a useful tool in getting the word out to America. So, the least we could do is continue exposing the evils of PP through social media, which just might get enough people’s attention, which in turn just might be enough to wake up America and demand that PP be #defunded.

2.  Call or write your Congressmen/women.

As Americans, we still have the right to free speech including the right to voice our concerns to our governing authorities and still be faithful to the command to “honor the King” (1 Pet 2:17). Our Constitution makes it perfectly legal to voice our disagreements peaceably. We therefore should take advantage of that right while we still have it. Will you consider writing to your Senator before the vote, scheduled to take place on August 3rd, regarding S.1881: Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood? Here’s a helpful article that provides the resources to find your Senator’s and Representative’s contact information as well as a sample email that you can just copy and paste (don’t forget to add your Senator’s name to the greeting if you chooses to do this).

3.  Discuss the issue at hand and act.

In an open letter, Dr. Heath Lambert urged those in the ACBC network, “At this crucial hour all Christians must act.” If you’re a pastor or a church leader or a parent just trying to raise your child in this “perverse generation” (Acts 2:40), the time to talk about our American Holocaust is now. Enough is enough. No more silence. In the spirit of Proverbs 31:8-9, I believe the church should be that voice—corporately and individually. There are several avenues to get involved to end infanticide: 1) financially support and/or volunteer at a Crisis Pregnancy Center; 2) start a Pro-Life ministry at your church if you have the resources to do so; 3) get involved in an Abortion Clinic Outreach ministry; or 4) adopt an “unwanted” baby or child. Without these kinds of actions, our preaching and rallying will continue to fall on deaf ears. Without these actions, our faith is dead (Jas 2:17).

When it comes to taking action, we Christians need to be moved with deep-seated compassion when dealing with a pregnant lady who’s been indoctrinated with the evil, worldly philosophy of this age. Namely, that abortion is just another form of ethical and amoral heath care treatment.

Bible-believing churches must eradicate the unbiblical stigma we have of condemning women who find themselves with child due to rape or any act of sexual immorality. They need to be loved and ministered to; not shunned or humiliated. The “pro-choice” camp must see that we who are vehemently opposed to abortion are not speaking out against “women’s rights.” We’re speaking up for human rights! There’s a stark difference. We’re speaking out against the murder of an innocent child who has the right to live because he/she is created in the image of God!

Therefore, we want to love and support the women by helping them see that abortion is not the right solution and providing a place to go while displaying grace, compassion, and kindness towards her. In other words, confused and battered pregnant women should be flocking to our churches, not avoiding them because they fear condemnation and public humiliation!

4.  Pray. Pray. Pray.

Let’s not forgot Psalm 2. God is still on the throne reigning from Heaven. Therefore, as broken vessels, remember to approach the throne of grace pleading for Him to grant our Nation repentance in this very hour. Pray for the salvation of the elect (Rom 10:1), pray for our government to execute their God-ordained role righteously (2 Tim 2:2; cf. Rom 13:1-7), pray for wisdom about how to respond to the “pro-choice” agenda (Jas 1:5), and pray for the evil of abortion to end now (Matt 6:13). We can’t fight this battle without the Lord’s strength, and we most certainly can’t win it (Eph 6:10-17).

What other ways can we be involved in ending PP and all the other abortion mills across the country? I look forward to reading any additional comments or answering any questions you may have.
